Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a safe, effective treatment for reducing the appearance of spider veins — those small, thread-like red, blue, or purple veins that can form just beneath the surface of the skin. Also known as telangiectasias, spider veins are typically less than 2 mm in diameter and may be flat or slightly raised. While they’re smaller than varicose veins, they’re often darker and more visible, especially on the lower legs.

Spider veins can develop due to weak or damaged vein valves, hormonal changes, sun exposure, or injury. While they’re generally harmless, many people choose to have them treated for cosmetic reasons, especially when they affect confidence in wearing skirts, shorts, or swimwear.

Sclerotherapy works by injecting a specialized solution directly into the affected veins, causing them to seal shut. Over the following weeks, the treated veins fade from view, leaving the skin looking clearer and smoother.

HOW IT WORKS

Sclerotherapy does not require anesthesia and is performed in-office. We treat spider veins less than 3 mm in diameter, with each session lasting about 15–30 minutes depending on the number and size of the veins.

During the procedure, you’ll lie on your back with your legs slightly elevated. After cleansing the treatment area, a fine needle is used to inject the sclerosing solution into the targeted vein. This causes the vein walls to swell, stick together, and eventually close off. Blood is naturally rerouted to healthier veins, and the treated vein is absorbed by the body over time.

Multiple veins can be treated during a single session, and depending on the vein’s size, it may require more than one injection. For best results, treatments are often spaced weeks or months apart.

RECOVERY & AFTERCARE

Most clients can resume normal activities the same day, but it’s important to walk regularly afterward to promote circulation and help prevent blood clots. You’ll be advised to wear compression stockings to maintain gentle pressure on the treated veins and aid healing.

To avoid hyperpigmentation in treated areas, stay out of the sun for at least two weeks following the procedure. Sun exposure on inflamed skin can increase the risk of dark spots, especially for those with medium to deep skin tones.

Temporary side effects may occur at the injection site, including:
Mild stinging or discomfort
Red, raised areas
Temporary brown lines or spots on the skin

These effects usually resolve within days to weeks, and the treated veins will gradually fade, revealing clearer, more even-toned skin.
